# Homeschooling outcomes: research in plain words

What longitudinal data say about how homeschooled young people fare, and how careful we have to be with these associations.

## Summaries (1)

### [Homeschooled teens in a large US cohort: more volunteering, fewer college degrees](/papers/chen-2021-school-types-homeschooling-young-adult-outcomes/)

Ying Chen et al. (2021) · Longitudinal cohort study (observational) · Peer-reviewed

In a long-running US cohort of nurses' children, those who were homeschooled as teenagers later volunteered more, scored higher on forgiveness and attended religious services more often than those in public schools, but were 23% less likely to get a college degree. Private and public school outcomes barely differed. These are associations, and only 187 people in the study were homeschooled.

Each summary says what the researchers did, who took part, what they found, the limitations, and whether we read the full paper or only the abstract.
